Medical University of Varna Admission & Entry Requirements

To score a spot in the medical university of Varna, you’ll have to pass the entrance exams successfully. You must have good grades in Biology and Chemistry in high school.

The entry test is based on High School knowledge of Biology and Chemistry (for EU applicants only). Non-native English speakers will have to sit an English test too.
This year, the entrance exam will be online. The entry test will consist of 5 sections:
Multiple-choice questions – your standard MCQ with 4 available answers, 1 of which is correct
Gap-filling questions – filling in the appropriate missing words in a text
Matching questions – 2 columns where you have to match each item from column 1 to column 2
True/false – standard true/false statements
Definitions – where you explain what certain chemical and biological terms mean

Medical University of Varna Tuition Fees

Here you can study medicine in a 6-year course, dentistry in a 6-year course, and a 5-year pharmacy course, all of which are taught in English.

The annual tuition fees for Medicine and Dental Medicine in English are € 8000 per year. The tuition fee for Pharmacy in English is €6000 per year.

Course structure

Medicine


The 6-year medicine programme in Bulgaria is taught entirely in English and spans 10 semesters of academic training. The first 2 years of the curriculum are devoted to pre-clinical study, while the final 3 years are devoted mostly to clinical training and research.

Before graduating, the final year of the programme is an internship year consisting of clinical rotations. Students are then expected to sit a state licencing exam Additionally, students will be required to complete practical summer internships in years 2-4.

When students complete the academic programme and final year internship requirements, in addition to passing state tests, they get the professional title of Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a globally recognised Master's degree.

Dentistry

Like the medical course, theoretical instruction is provided through lectures, seminars, practical exercises, and individual work for all compulsory, elective, and facultative subjects.

Practical training is provided through practical exercises throughout the semester, training practises, and pre-graduate traineeship. Students gain adequate knowledge of medical science, proper comprehension of scientific methods, structure, physiology, and behaviour of healthy and sick individuals, as well as the influence of social factors on dental health.

As a result of the fundamental training, the aspiring dentist will acquire the abilities necessary to execute all tasks involving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of abnormalities and illnesses of the teeth, mouth, jaws, and associated tissues.

About University of Veterinary Medicine, Budapest

The University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest is a state-owned university and the oldest veterinary school in Hungary, established in 1787. The university has been teaching international students for more than 30 years.

Budapest is the capital of Hungary and the most populated city in the country with more than 1,700,000 inhabitants. The city is home to several prestigious European universities for medicine. The city is preferred not only by international students but also many tourists come here to visit the ancient monuments around the whole city. 

The veterinary curriculum here is practice-oriented with more than 1,800 contact hours with animals. This allows students to acquire crucial skills in practising as a professional later. 

The university is the only Hungarian higher educational institution that offers a veterinary programme in English. It has a well-developed campus with 4 practice animal clinics for small animals, horses, food animals, and a department for exotic animals. 

Student transfers are possible here, after an assessment of your previous results in another accredited university. Students who are currently studying in the natural science field can also apply for a transfer to the veterinary course. According to your previous results, you might be allowed to skip 1-3 years or be exempted from the entrance exams.

University of Veterinary Medicine Admission & Entry Requirements

To be accepted here, you need to take an entrance exam, which consists of written and oral parts. The written part evaluates your knowledge of Biology and Chemistry, as well as your English language proficiency. If you pass the first part, you can move on to the oral part of the exam. It will evaluate your academic past and motivation to study vet sciences. 

Accommodation

The university has a four-storey dormitory building with a total capacity of 346 students. It is situated in a suburban district close to the campus. The dorm offers double and triple rooms as well as a courtyard with a sports field and a park. 

Each room is well furnished with a private bathroom and a balcony. The dorm offers a great opportunity for socialisation among students in the entertaining areas like pool table, darts, fitness, computer and TV rooms. 

In the building, you can also find a student buffet or cook your own food in the communal kitchens equipped with microwaves and electric cookers. The price per month for a bed and usage of the facilities is €200.

Students who prefer to rent private accommodation must keep in mind that prices in Budapest are a bit higher than the average in Hungary. You will need around €1,000 per month, €400 of which for rent and around €200 for basic utilities.

Accreditation

The European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) inspected the university in 2 stages - curriculum and management system. The school successfully passed the examination and is fully accredited by EAEVE. 

Receiving a diploma in veterinary science here allows you to apply for PhD studies or start practising right after graduation.

The academic year at this university is divided into 2 terms. Each semester has classes and exam periods. Also, several days off and breaks are included around holidays.
