About University of Novi Sad

The University of Novi Sad was established in 1960 as a public higher education institution. Nowadays, it consists of 14 faculties located in 4 cities and gains distinction in many research projects. The school hosts more than 40,000 students and is the second-largest Serbian university.

The city of Novi Sad has a population of over 270,000 inhabitants, making it the second-largest city in the country. The city was heavily devastated by the revolution in the middle of the 19th century, but it was fully rebuilt and restored. Nowadays, you can see monuments and buildings that preserve the city’s long history.

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Novi Sad is located in the city of Novi Sad and ranks as one of the top places to study medicine abroad. It prepares students to become medical and dental doctors in fully English-taught courses. It aims to educate well-prepared professionals eligible to practise on their own after graduation. 

Some of the prospective students might feel insecure about whether their Biology and Chemistry knowledge is enough to directly apply for a course. There is nothing to worry about, the University of Novi Sad offers three types of preparatory courses. The intensive preparatory course lasts for 2 weeks - 45 hours of Biology and 45 hours of Chemistry held in the faculty. You can also choose an intensive online course in one of the subjects or both. 

The most preferable pre-medical course for international students is the foundation year. It includes not only the subjects Biology and Chemistry, but also courses in English and Serbian, basics of Anatomy and Physiology. This programme guarantees you a really good head start on your studies and a competitive score on the entrance exams. 

This university doesn’t offer a graduate entry course but accepts transfer students no later than the 3rd year of study.

University of Novi Sad Admission & Entry Requirements

Each candidate must own a high school leaving certificate or similar level of education and must be fluent in English. You can prove your language proficiency with a certificate or you can sit for the university’s exam and interview to evaluate your skills. 

All the applicants must sit an entrance exam in Biology and Chemistry held at the faculty.

Accommodation

The University of Novi Sad offers student housing in 10 dormitory buildings with a total capacity of around 3,000 beds. Some of the dorms include student cafeterias where you can enjoy fresh-cooked meals.

There are dormitory buildings located near each faculty. They consist of single, double, and triple rooms with a private bathroom. Common areas like cafeterias, washing rooms, and kitchens are available for all the residents. 

If you prefer private accommodation in Novi Sad, you can rent a 1-bedroom flat at the price of €250 per month. Basic utilities such as electricity, water, heating and Internet on average cost around €180. Food and other living expenses are up to your standards but you will need more than €250/month.

Accreditation

The University of Novi Sad is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and is recognised by the World Health Organisation. Their English courses in medicine meet all the GMC medical education standards. 

Graduating from this university gives you the chance to start practising or continue your studies at a higher level all around the world.

Term Dates

The academic year is divided into two terms - winter and spring. 

The winter term takes place from mid-October until mid-January, followed by a 1-week break and 2-week examination period.  

The spring term begins in the last week of February and continues until the beginning of June. Exams are held during the whole summer.
