As Bucharest is the capital of Romania, it’s certain that you will never get bored here. The city includes many different points of interest, such as museums, parks, an “old town” district, cathedrals, gardens, shopping malls, clubs, and much more. There’s enough for everybody.

Life as a Medical Student in Bucharest, Romania

According to the legend, Bucharest was founded by the mythical figure Bucur. He was a shepherd and a haiduc (freedom fighter or bandit, depending on the perspective). Thus, he was cut from the same cloth as legendary leaders and heroes of old.

When the Mongols kidnapped his lover, Bucur set off on an epic chase all the way to the frozen Dniester river. Once he caught up to the abductors, the shepherd almost lost his life despite his mettle as a fighter. However, an act of god broke the ice and took the life of the Mongols.

Later, Bucur settled in a house with Anca, his lover, and many people sought security next to them. The city slowly grew around the hero’s home, and in time, it adopted his name as its own.

Nowadays, Bucharest is among the safest European capitals, so it seems locals are honouring Bucur’s legacy. In fact, the city loves its history because many of the museums are housed in palaces. Or maybe they love palaces because they have one for their MPs. The Palace of Parliament is the biggest parliament building in the world.

It seems lakes and palaces go together in Bucharest because they are both in high supply. The city boasts over 10 lakes, and each has its own history. Lacul Morii, for example, has a reputation for the supernatural, while Lake Vacaresti spins a cautionary tale about expensive city projects. However, they all make excellent locations for a casual stroll in good company.
