The Medical University of Lodz is one of the best Polish medical universities and is currently the largest public medical school in Poland. MUL was founded at the beginning of October 2002 and is a direct descendant of the Medical Academy and the Military Medical Academy of Lodz, established in 1950 and 1958.
Not long after its inception, Lodz Medical University introduced to medicine and dentistry teaching programmes in English. Currently, more than 900 international students study here, and over 600 have already graduated through the years.
The English programmes have been comprehensively designed to comply with the highest global standards of medical education. Upon graduation from the Medical University of Lodz, you will be eligible to work as a medical practitioner worldwide.
There’s also a 4-year medical degree in English (or graduate-entry medicine programme) here and student transfers are welcome. Last but not least, MUL offers a Preparatory Course (premed) in English tailored toward medicine and dentistry applicants who need to sharpen their knowledge for the entrance exam.

Entry requirements for MUL include a high school diploma or a secondary school leaving certificate. You will need above-average grades in 2 of these subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Maths.
There’s also an entrance exam in the form of a Skype interview. Your knowledge of the above subjects will be evaluated. In addition, non-native speakers should demonstrate their English language proficiency.
Admission requirements for the graduate entry course are a minimum BSc in a related degree and English language proficiency.

MUL has taken care of your student housing needs. It offers 2 dormitories which are very close to the teaching departments. Both buildings have been recently renovated inside and outside. All rooms are appropriately furnished and equipped with all the basics necessary to ensure good living conditions. The monthly cost of a double room ranges from €100 – €120 per person.
If you prefer private accommodation, however, the monthly rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is between €300 – €400. With utilities around €150 per month and living expenses, you can expect to spend somewhere between €500 – €700 per month.
As with most Polish medical universities with English programmes, the Medical University of Lodz is recognised all over the world. A degree from MUL will allow you to return home and practice medicine. The World Health Organisation recognises the university, and it is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
According to the legend, an explorer named Janusz travelled the stream by boat when a storm broke out. The man took the boat out and turned it upside down to shelter himself from the rain. In the morning, he was so happy with his accommodation that he decided never to leave. Soon, others joined him, and they decided to name the city “boat”. That’s how Lodz began.
Today, Lodz is the third-largest city in Poland, with 600,000 people. It has a historical reputation as a cultural meeting place because of its rapid growth in the 20th century. During that period, Poles, Russians, and Germans worked peacefully together to bring forth prosperity.
There is much remaining in the cityscape from those times. Many theatres and museums were built in that period. At the same time, the old textile factories are now repurposed to meet the new needs of the people.
Piotrkowska Street is one of the signature landmarks in the city. It is the central axis of Lodz, and the town grew larger around it. The street has various institutions, restaurants, clubs, pubs, and shops. Moreover, Piotrkowska has international fame and status due to all that it offers to pedestrians.
Furthermore, Lodz has a certain artsy vibe that many find alluring, and the local film-making traditions attract international attention. Moreover, the city's galleries, museums, and cafes are very attractive to students with artistic interests and talents.
The academic year usually begins on the 1st of October every year. The first semester ends in late January. Right after the semester ends, you will have a 2-week examination period.
The second semester starts in mid-February and ends in June. The second examination session is throughout June. Summer vacation: July – September.
