Medical University of Varna Admission & Entry Requirements

To score a spot in the medical university of Varna, you’ll have to pass the entrance exams successfully. You must have good grades in Biology and Chemistry in high school.

The entry test is based on High School knowledge of Biology and Chemistry (for EU applicants only). Non-native English speakers will have to sit an English test too.
This year, the entrance exam will be online. The entry test will consist of 5 sections:
Multiple-choice questions – your standard MCQ with 4 available answers, 1 of which is correct
Gap-filling questions – filling in the appropriate missing words in a text
Matching questions – 2 columns where you have to match each item from column 1 to column 2
True/false – standard true/false statements
Definitions – where you explain what certain chemical and biological terms mean

Medical University of Varna Tuition Fees

Here you can study medicine in a 6-year course, dentistry in a 6-year course, and a 5-year pharmacy course, all of which are taught in English.

The annual tuition fees for Medicine and Dental Medicine in English are € 8000 per year. The tuition fee for Pharmacy in English is €6000 per year.

Course structure

Medicine


The 6-year medicine programme in Bulgaria is taught entirely in English and spans 10 semesters of academic training. The first 2 years of the curriculum are devoted to pre-clinical study, while the final 3 years are devoted mostly to clinical training and research.

Before graduating, the final year of the programme is an internship year consisting of clinical rotations. Students are then expected to sit a state licencing exam Additionally, students will be required to complete practical summer internships in years 2-4.

When students complete the academic programme and final year internship requirements, in addition to passing state tests, they get the professional title of Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a globally recognised Master's degree.

Dentistry

Like the medical course, theoretical instruction is provided through lectures, seminars, practical exercises, and individual work for all compulsory, elective, and facultative subjects.

Practical training is provided through practical exercises throughout the semester, training practises, and pre-graduate traineeship. Students gain adequate knowledge of medical science, proper comprehension of scientific methods, structure, physiology, and behaviour of healthy and sick individuals, as well as the influence of social factors on dental health.

As a result of the fundamental training, the aspiring dentist will acquire the abilities necessary to execute all tasks involving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of abnormalities and illnesses of the teeth, mouth, jaws, and associated tissues.

About Jan Kochanowski University School of Medicine in Kielce

Jan Kochanowski University School of Medicine (JKU) is located in Kielce, Poland and was established in 1969. Kielce is in South-Central Poland, with a population of over 190,000 people. Polish universities are among the best universities to study medicine, and if you choose one of them, you will never regret it.

Jan Kochanowski University is a public higher education institution named after one of the greatest Polish poets Jan Kochanowski. The fact that the university is in Poland speaks for itself about the quality. Poland is famous for its high level of education supplied with modern equipment and well-developed training programmes.

The Medical Faculty of the university was founded in 2005. It consists of 2 institutes - Medicine and Public Health. Just like the rest of the Polish universities, JKU has the most up-to-date facilities and laboratories. They are equipped with medical simulators where you can practice. 

The faculty’s clinical base consists of two hospitals - Regional Hospital and the Świętokrzyskie Cardiology centre. They were expanded and upgraded in recent years.  

The European Union has funded Jan Kochanowski University with more than €75 million during the past 10 years. This helped the medical school to develop and invest in providing the best campus and experts for their students.

The medicine programme is adapted to the European standards with more than 5700 educational hours. The course is strictly developed by the Polish and European standards for medical higher education. The university uses the ECTS points system.

The MD programme lasts 6 years, and it is entirely taught in English. It is divided into pre-clinical and clinical years. At the beginning of your journey, you will mostly attend lectures to prepare for the clinical years and clerkships. 

Once you pass the pre-clinical years, it’s time to meet what real doctors do and what it feels like to be one of them. The hands-on experience will broaden your medical knowledge and help you understand the anatomy behind the curtains. 

This university does not offer graduate entry programmes and student transfers.

Extracurricular and Leisure Activities

Students can participate in several organisations and initiatives on campus. The most popular is the international AIESEC, with students from more than 100 countries around the world. Members can work on individual and group projects in various fields such as education, community, and IT sector development.

In addition, the University Sports Association and University Sports Centre are an excellent way for young people to clear their minds and relieve any stress they might have accumulated from lectures and exams.

We know how worried everyone is before an exam. No matter how prepared you are, the exams are always a source of butterflies in the stomach. So one of the best things we can say about this university is that they don’t require an entrance exam for the Medicine programme. 

All you need to apply here is an English language certificate and good grades in your high-school diploma or secondary school leaving certificate. The subjects that will matter are Biology or Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics by your choice.

Accommodation

The university offers four dormitories with a capacity of 192 beds divided into single and double bedrooms. The building was recently renovated and is fully equipped with all the needed facilities.

All of the rooms have kitchen corners and a bathroom. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, electric cooker, microwave and kettle. The rooms are fitted with wardrobes, tables, chairs, beds, bedding, internet and sat TV access.

The prices per room vary from €80 to €120 monthly. However, if you prefer to live on your own, you can go for a flat. The rent is from €200-€300 per month. Your monthly utilities and living expenses will cost you around €400.

The university is listed in the World Health Organisation and provides you with an internationally recognised diploma in medicine when you successfully graduate.

Life as a Medical Student in Kielce, Poland

King Jan III Sobieski rested under him on his return from the Battle of Vienna. As you might have guessed by now, Bartek is an oak tree, and he is almost 700 years old. Who knows what he’d tell you.
