Varna Medical University is a state medical university. It is accredited by the National Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation at the Council of Ministers in the execution of the Law on Higher Education in the Republic of Bulgaria.

Medical University of Varna Admission & Entry Requirements

To score a spot in the medical university of Varna, you’ll have to pass the entrance exams successfully. You must have good grades in Biology and Chemistry in high school.

The entry test is based on High School knowledge of Biology and Chemistry (for EU applicants only). Non-native English speakers will have to sit an English test too.
This year, the entrance exam will be online. The entry test will consist of 5 sections:
Multiple-choice questions – your standard MCQ with 4 available answers, 1 of which is correct
Gap-filling questions – filling in the appropriate missing words in a text
Matching questions – 2 columns where you have to match each item from column 1 to column 2
True/false – standard true/false statements
Definitions – where you explain what certain chemical and biological terms mean

Medical University of Varna Tuition Fees

Here you can study medicine in a 6-year course, dentistry in a 6-year course, and a 5-year pharmacy course, all of which are taught in English.

The annual tuition fees for Medicine and Dental Medicine in English are € 8000 per year. The tuition fee for Pharmacy in English is €6000 per year.

Course structure

Medicine


The 6-year medicine programme in Bulgaria is taught entirely in English and spans 10 semesters of academic training. The first 2 years of the curriculum are devoted to pre-clinical study, while the final 3 years are devoted mostly to clinical training and research.

Before graduating, the final year of the programme is an internship year consisting of clinical rotations. Students are then expected to sit a state licencing exam Additionally, students will be required to complete practical summer internships in years 2-4.

When students complete the academic programme and final year internship requirements, in addition to passing state tests, they get the professional title of Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a globally recognised Master's degree.

Dentistry

Like the medical course, theoretical instruction is provided through lectures, seminars, practical exercises, and individual work for all compulsory, elective, and facultative subjects.

Practical training is provided through practical exercises throughout the semester, training practises, and pre-graduate traineeship. Students gain adequate knowledge of medical science, proper comprehension of scientific methods, structure, physiology, and behaviour of healthy and sick individuals, as well as the influence of social factors on dental health.

As a result of the fundamental training, the aspiring dentist will acquire the abilities necessary to execute all tasks involving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of abnormalities and illnesses of the teeth, mouth, jaws, and associated tissues.


About Charles University Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen

Charles University is one of the largest and oldest universities in Europe. It has 17 faculties, 6 of which are devoted to medicine. They are located in Pilsen, Prague, and Hradec Kralove. The Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen offers international students the opportunity to study dentistry and medicine in English.

Pilsen has a population of more than 175,000 inhabitants which ranks it as the 4th most populated city in the Czech Republic. Its worldwide fame comes from the Pilsner beer. It was first created here in 1842 by the Bavarian brewer - Josef Groll. The city of Pilsen offers a large variety of tourist and historical attractions like a gothic cathedral, town halls, and historic tunnels.

Like every other European university, this faculty offers a high-quality M.D. course with a duration of 6 years and dentistry for 5 years. The preclinical years are mostly devoted to the theoretical subjects related to the basics of biology and chemistry. 

The Faculty has taken care to provide its students with simulators and cooperating teaching clinics and hospitals for the practical lessons during the clinical years. To become a doctor, it is essential to know not only how to treat but also how to communicate with patients. Not only Charles University, but all the medical universities around the Czech Republic invest and work on providing the best possible education for their future doctors.

The Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen doesn’t offer graduate entry course and doesn't accept students transfers.

The tuition fees at the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen are as follows:

Medical Faculty in Pilsen Charles University

Charles University Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen Admission & Entry Requirements

Applying for this university requires an entrance exam. It consists of 75 multiple-choice questions on the basics of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. There are 25 questions for each subject. If you fail the exam, you are not allowed to retake it in the same academic year.

The other requirement for application is to own a secondary school leaving certificate.

Accommodation

The faculty offers student housing in 3 dormitory buildings located close to the campus. The building consists of double, triple and quadruple rooms. They are fully furnished with desks, chairs, beds, a heating system and sheets. There are vending machines for coffee, tea, and snacks on the first floor of each building. The average monthly price is around €300.

The rooms in the Heyrovskeho residence have a refrigerator. Each floor offers a shared kitchen with microwaves, ovens, and cookers. Types of rooms are double and triple. 

Bolevecka residence offers accommodation in cubicles with an en suite bathroom. They are equipped with a fridge and a two-ring cooker. 

Safrankuv pavilion housing consists of double and triple rooms. Each floor has shared bathrooms and toilet facilities as well as fully-equipped kitchens. 

A one-bedroom apartment in Pilsen costs around €400 per month. For living expenses, you will need around €600 more monthly.

Accreditation

Receiving a diploma from Charles University allows you to start practising or continue your study everywhere around Europe and the world. 

The faculty is accredited by the World Health Organisation and is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.

Term Dates

The teaching period for the first semester is between 01 October and 22 January. After the classes finish, the examination session starts and continues until the end of February.

The summer semester starts at the beginning of March and finishes at the beginning of June. The examination period is from the first week of June until mid-July.
