Established in 1354, Charles University is one of the oldest not just in the Czech Republic, but in all of Europe - and also one of the biggest, with 17 faculties in 3 cities. Its Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové is dedicated to creating future doctors and dentists, offerings its courses in either Czech or English.
Charles University was established in 1348 and is one of the oldest universities in continuous operation around Europe. Currently, the university has 17 faculties. They are located in different cities - Prague, Hradec Kralove, and Pilsen.
In Hradec Kralove are situated 2 faculties - the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Medicine. Both are operational and offer courses entirely taught in English. The Faculty of Medicine has a 6-year medical programme and a 5-year dentistry course.
Hradec Kralove is a small city but it offers a great option for education. Nowadays, there are 4 Czech Universities there, 3 of which are medical. The city is situated on the shores of rivers Eble and Orlice close to the highest mountains in the Czech Republic - Krkonose.
The Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Kralove consists of many buildings with different study and leisure time facilities. There are more than 40 lecture halls with a total capacity of more than 1,000 students. Also, medical libraries and computer labs are accessible for students all around the clock. Being a medical student might be stressful sometimes, that’s why there is a relaxation zone that was completely renovated in 2020.
Both courses - Medicine and Dentistry in English start with theoretical lectures, They will enhance your knowledge of Biology, medicine, and science subjects that you will need through the next years. Soon after, there will be practical seminars in simulators, clinics, and hospitals. You will acquire the skills not only to treat patients but to communicate properly with them.
This faculty doesn’t offer graduate entry and doesn’t accept student transfers.

Applicants who own a secondary school certificate/diploma are eligible to apply for the medicine and dentistry courses in English. The faculty requires an entrance exam that is held in English. The exam will evaluate your knowledge of basic science in human anatomy, biology, chemistry and physics. The entrance exam can be taken not only in the Czech Republic but in many other countries around and outside Europe. You can sit it in your home country or whichever of the countries is best for you.

The faculty of medicine offers 2 types of accommodation in Hradec Kralove. The first one is dormitory buildings that belong to the university and the second type is - a hotel that is in cooperation with the university. If you choose the hotel, as a student of the medical faculty you will pay around €7 per day for a room with a private bathroom.
The dormitory building Palachova consists of flats for 4 or 6 students with a kitchen and bathroom. The flats have 2 double rooms or 2 triple rooms. You are not allowed to choose the type of flat, you will be placed according to the vacant rooms.
The hostel Na Kotli is made of double, triple and quadruple rooms with bathrooms. Each floor has a shared kitchen and washrooms divided between males and females. The price per month for a dorm room is around €100-150.
To rent your own one-bedroom flat in Hradec Kralove, you will pay rent of about €400 per month. For other expenses like utilities, food, books, and leisure time activities, you will need around €600 monthly.
A diploma from each of Charles University’s faculties is recognised worldwide and will allow you to continue your studies or start practising everywhere around the world.
The Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Kralove is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and is recognised by the World Health Organisation.
The lectures from the first semester start at the end of September and last until mid-January. The examination session starts right after the semester’s end and continues until mid-February.
The summer semester starts after the exam session and finishes at the end of May. The exam period is during June.
