About European University Georgia

European University in Tbilisi, Georgia, gained its status as a teaching university in 2011 by the decision of the Board of Authorisation of Educational Institutions. The university started to implement new programmes in law, business, medicine, humanities, and social sciences with bachelor’s and master’s degree levels.

The Faculty of Medicine of the European University of Georgia started operating in 2014. The university invested in modernising its campus and hiring well-known experts in the field with many years of medical and pedagogical experience. - test

Many international students who wish to study medicine in English abroad choose this medical university because of the variety of teaching and evaluation approaches. Future doctors have the opportunity to master theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Furthermore, the university has taken care of clerkships and bedside teaching by signing agreements with around 60 clinics all around Georgia. Thus, you don’t worry about organisational details and focus on learning instead.

In addition, European University is the owner of Jo Ann University Hospital. The medical centre has been a primary provider of cardiology and cardiac surgery in Georgia for 25 years now. Moreover, it is the country's first hospital specialising in newborn and pediatric heart surgery. Imagine all that you can learn here during your clinical hours.

Being a student at the European University in Tbilisi is a remarkable journey through the medical world. It starts with the micro pieces that build bodies and travel through human anatomy and how it works. In the first years, young scholars attend lectures and study the most modern medical literature. Soon after, medical students go through simulated real-life situations to gain both experience and confidence.

While simulators are exciting and can teach many new skills, nothing beats real-life experience. And the major clinics that cooperate with the university provide plenty of it. You will face real situations with real patients and get a taste of what it means to be a doctor.

What makes this university most preferable among other medical schools in Georgia is its constant investment in growing and developing extracurricular activities and research. Every technology and literature matters when it comes to medicine and the growth of the student’s knowledge. That’s why European University Georgia doesn’t spare money when it comes to the right way of education.

Currently, the university has Medicine and Dentistry programmes fully taught in English. As in most European universities, the medical course is awarded a Medical Doctor (MD) degree after successful graduation. The Dentistry programme earns a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree.

Tbilisi’s European University’s students are well-prepared, which allows them to participate in medical championships and competitions constantly. Aspiring doctors here can compete for cash prizes, though travelling around the world to acquire new medical skills and knowledge is a sufficient reward.

The European University team won 3rd place among 213 other competitors in the 2nd International Diagnostic Championship. They were awarded gift cards and an inSimu Premium subscription, a simulator app for medical situations.

The university encourages future doctors with a love for sports. There are volleyball, basketball, dance, and futsal teams that wait for their champions. Indeed, students never lack recreational activities because the school organises graduation, welcome, and new year parties.

Accommodation

Just like the university, the dormitory building is modernly built with a housing capacity of 300 students. It includes more than 15,000 square feet of rooms, facilities, and leisure time spaces.

There are double rooms furnished with beds, desks, chairs, air conditioning, and central heating. Every room has its own private bathroom. The staff of the dorm ensures the safety and maintenance of the dorm.

Despite the high-standard dormitory building, the monthly dorm rent is pretty affordable - around €100. And no, there is no catch here. The university wants its students to be as comfortable as at home without throwing too much money away.

The cost of living in Georgia is very affordable compared to Western European countries. A single-bedroom apartment costs between €300 and €450 per month, depending on the location. Monthly living costs are another €450 per month in Tbilisi.

Life as a Medical Student in Tbilisi, Georgia

Tbilisi is an old and intricate city to explore. It was created 1,300 years ago to serve as the new capital of the Iberian king, who needed a town that was easy to defend. Tbilisi’s location in the Caucasus mountains along the Mtkvari river was a purely defensive choice, but the consequences 13 centuries later are genuinely spectacular.

The capital stretches on both sides of the Mtkvari, which cools the air in the hot Georgian summers. Meanwhile, the roads wind around the hills of the Lower Caucasus, and each climb upwards rewards wanderers with the glorious sights of the city.

Speaking of sights, Tbilisi has plenty of those, both natural and man-made. The Old Town has architectural marvels like Orthodox cathedrals, public libraries, theatres, and the breathtaking Parliament. Bridges are another sight to behold in Georgia, and young students feel pleased to place love lock charms on them. It is a common sight, considering the student population in the city.

Local universities claim 35,000 students, and about 5,000 of them are international students. Each school has its international community, but there are city-wide clubs and groups with no affiliation limits for participants.

Naturally, the local nightlife is booming with so many young people. International DJs are a common sight in the local clubs, and fans of subtler delights can always find comfort in the local cuisine and the millennia-old wine tradition.

Tbilisi indeed sounds and looks like a lifetime experience. Fortunately, you can learn even more about it from the horse's mouth in this Q&A session with a European University graduate.
