About University of Zagreb School of Medicine

The University of Zagreb started its history in 1669 as the first university in Croatia and in South-East Europe. The university expanded in no time and nowadays, there are more than 20 faculties in different disciplines. The school offers courses in Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary.

Zagreb is the capital and the largest city in Croatia with a population of over 800,000 inhabitants. It is situated along the Sava River and the Southern slopes of the Madvednica mountain. Each year Zagreb welcomes more and more international students seeking a prestigious European University.

The University of Zagreb invests in the most modern equipment in the medical field. Also, it hires the best professionals in the country able to share their large knowledge in a proper way with the students. 

The curriculum in the pre-medical years includes theoretical lectures to acquire deep knowledge in science subjects. Step by step, in the clinical years you will start practising in simulators and attend hospitals. Each summer, you are obliged to take clerkships in a hospital of your choice. 

This university does not offer graduate-entry courses in dentistry and medicine but accepts student transfers.

University of Zagreb School of Medicine Tuition Fees

The tuition fees at this university can be paid in one or two instalments and are as follows:

  • Medicine, 6-year course: €12,000 annually 
  • Dentistry, 5-year course: €10,000 annually 
  • Veterinary, 6-year course: €9,000 annually

University of Zagreb School of Medicine Admission & Entry Requirements

Due to the different grading systems in countries around the globe, this university doesn’t take grades as a criterion for admission. The ranking score is based only on the applicants’ entrance examination results. 

The test consists of 120 questions in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, 40 questions per subject. To pass the exam, you need at least 15 right answers in each section and an overall score of more than 61 correct answers. 

Students with Bachelor’s degrees in health-related fields are exempt from the entrance examination.

Accommodation

The University of Zagreb doesn’t provide accommodation for international students. Every student must rent their own accommodation here. Living on your own in Zagreb will cost you around €900 monthly. A 1-bedroom apartment in the city centre is around € 450 and outside - about €350. For basic utilities and transportation, you will spend €200 on average. Expenses for food and leisure time are up to you, but €350 would be enough.

Accreditation

Graduating from this university opens the door to the international medical world. Your diploma will be globally recognised and will allow you to practice everywhere around the globe.

The university is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and is recognised by the World Health Organisation. Also, the curriculum is structured in accordance with all the GMC standards so you will be eligible to practice as a doctor even in the UK.

Term Dates

The academic year starts at the end of September and the winter term ends in the third week of January. The exam session is held from the 15th of January until the 19th of February. 

The summer semester begins in the last week of February and ends at the beginning of June. The examination period takes place during June and the first week of July.

There are several days off and breaks around the holidays.
