Varna Medical University is a state medical university. It is accredited by the National Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation at the Council of Ministers in the execution of the Law on Higher Education in the Republic of Bulgaria.

Medical University of Varna Admission & Entry Requirements

To score a spot in the medical university of Varna, you’ll have to pass the entrance exams successfully. You must have good grades in Biology and Chemistry in high school.

The entry test is based on High School knowledge of Biology and Chemistry (for EU applicants only). Non-native English speakers will have to sit an English test too.
This year, the entrance exam will be online. The entry test will consist of 5 sections:
Multiple-choice questions – your standard MCQ with 4 available answers, 1 of which is correct
Gap-filling questions – filling in the appropriate missing words in a text
Matching questions – 2 columns where you have to match each item from column 1 to column 2
True/false – standard true/false statements
Definitions – where you explain what certain chemical and biological terms mean

Medical University of Varna Tuition Fees

Here you can study medicine in a 6-year course, dentistry in a 6-year course, and a 5-year pharmacy course, all of which are taught in English.

The annual tuition fees for Medicine and Dental Medicine in English are € 8000 per year. The tuition fee for Pharmacy in English is €6000 per year.

Course structure

Medicine


The 6-year medicine programme in Bulgaria is taught entirely in English and spans 10 semesters of academic training. The first 2 years of the curriculum are devoted to pre-clinical study, while the final 3 years are devoted mostly to clinical training and research.

Before graduating, the final year of the programme is an internship year consisting of clinical rotations. Students are then expected to sit a state licencing exam Additionally, students will be required to complete practical summer internships in years 2-4.

When students complete the academic programme and final year internship requirements, in addition to passing state tests, they get the professional title of Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a globally recognised Master's degree.

Dentistry

Like the medical course, theoretical instruction is provided through lectures, seminars, practical exercises, and individual work for all compulsory, elective, and facultative subjects.

Practical training is provided through practical exercises throughout the semester, training practises, and pre-graduate traineeship. Students gain adequate knowledge of medical science, proper comprehension of scientific methods, structure, physiology, and behaviour of healthy and sick individuals, as well as the influence of social factors on dental health.

As a result of the fundamental training, the aspiring dentist will acquire the abilities necessary to execute all tasks involving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of abnormalities and illnesses of the teeth, mouth, jaws, and associated tissues.

About Charles University Second Faculty of Medicine

The Second Faculty of Medicine is located in Prague where the main campus of Charles University is. At this time, the faculty offers only a medicine course taught in English. The faculty is cooperating with the Motol University Hospital where many lectures and practical training are held.

Charles University was established in 1348 and nowadays has 17 faculties that are located in three different cities - Prague, Hradec Kralove and Pilsen. It is one of the oldest and largest Czech Universities. The university offers several undergraduate medical programmes in English.

Prague is the capital and the most populated city in the Czech Republic. 

The Medical programme consists of theoretical and practical sessions. In the first 2 years, you will have mostly lectures about the foundations of scientific subjects and the human body. In the following years, you will be involved in training programmes in the cooperation hospital. Also, you will be required to take summer clerkships in your home country or anywhere else you choose. 

Since it’s hard sometimes to find a teaching hospital for your clerkships, many European Universities, including Charles University take care of that instead of students. The clinics and hospitals that are in cooperation with them are happy to welcome every student.

This faculty doesn’t offer a graduate entry course and doesn’t accept student transfers.

The MD course lasts 6 years and the annual tuition fees are around €10,000.

Charles University Second Faculty of Medicine Admission & Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for the admission ranking are based on your secondary school graduation certificate and your results on the entrance exam. The exam consists of 60 questions from Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Logic. Each subject has 15 questions. Applicants have 75 minutes to complete the test.

Applicants who achieve high results in the written part will be invited for the second part of the entrance exams - the interview. Its purpose is to evaluate your English proficiency and your skills to discuss and defend your opinion.

Accommodation

There are 11 dormitory buildings in Prague that belong to Charles University. They offer low-cost prices but well-equipped rooms and facilities. On the first floor of each building, you can find a vending machine for snacks, coffee, and tea.

The rooms are single, double and triple. They are furnished with beds, desks, chairs, wardrobes, shelves and wardrobes. There are private bathrooms and heating systems. The kitchens and washing rooms are shared.

Other areas you can find in the dorms are study rooms, and gyms, somewhere you can find even small markets in the building. The monthly rent for a bed in the dorm is around €300 including utilities and using the facilities in the building. Catering services are also offered but not included in the rent, you must pay separately if you want to use it.

Renting your own one-bedroom flat in Prague costs between €600 and €700, based on the location. Some additional expenses like food, transportation and utilities, will cost you around €600 per month.

All of the medical faculties at Charles University are recognised by the World Health Organisation and are listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.

Graduates here receive a globally recognised diploma, which gives them the right to continue their studies in higher degree or start practising everywhere around the world.

Term Dates

The academic year starts at the beginning of October and the winter semester lasts until mid-January. From the end of the semester until mid-February is the examination session.

The summer semester starts after the winter exams and finishes at the end of May followed by a one-month examination period.
