Medical University of Varna Admission & Entry Requirements

To score a spot in the medical university of Varna, you’ll have to pass the entrance exams successfully. You must have good grades in Biology and Chemistry in high school.

The entry test is based on High School knowledge of Biology and Chemistry (for EU applicants only). Non-native English speakers will have to sit an English test too.
This year, the entrance exam will be online. The entry test will consist of 5 sections:
Multiple-choice questions – your standard MCQ with 4 available answers, 1 of which is correct
Gap-filling questions – filling in the appropriate missing words in a text
Matching questions – 2 columns where you have to match each item from column 1 to column 2
True/false – standard true/false statements
Definitions – where you explain what certain chemical and biological terms mean

Medical University of Varna Tuition Fees

Here you can study medicine in a 6-year course, dentistry in a 6-year course, and a 5-year pharmacy course, all of which are taught in English.

The annual tuition fees for Medicine and Dental Medicine in English are € 8000 per year. The tuition fee for Pharmacy in English is €6000 per year.

Course structure

Medicine


The 6-year medicine programme in Bulgaria is taught entirely in English and spans 10 semesters of academic training. The first 2 years of the curriculum are devoted to pre-clinical study, while the final 3 years are devoted mostly to clinical training and research.

Before graduating, the final year of the programme is an internship year consisting of clinical rotations. Students are then expected to sit a state licencing exam Additionally, students will be required to complete practical summer internships in years 2-4.

When students complete the academic programme and final year internship requirements, in addition to passing state tests, they get the professional title of Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a globally recognised Master's degree.

Dentistry

Like the medical course, theoretical instruction is provided through lectures, seminars, practical exercises, and individual work for all compulsory, elective, and facultative subjects.

Practical training is provided through practical exercises throughout the semester, training practises, and pre-graduate traineeship. Students gain adequate knowledge of medical science, proper comprehension of scientific methods, structure, physiology, and behaviour of healthy and sick individuals, as well as the influence of social factors on dental health.

As a result of the fundamental training, the aspiring dentist will acquire the abilities necessary to execute all tasks involving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of abnormalities and illnesses of the teeth, mouth, jaws, and associated tissues.

The first and second years mainly include theoretical lectures on the basics of medicine and the human body. In the following years, you will start practising and attending teaching clinics and hospitals.

Extracurricular and Leisure Activities

The University of Ostrava focuses its research effort on two main areas: epidemiology and haematological malignancies. The first field explores the epidemiological status of the local population, while the second deals more with genetic and molecular research of blood diseases. Naturally, the university encourages students to participate in the effort.

In addition, students can join Younie - the most popular student organisation on campus. They organise various events throughout the year, and their goals are focused on entertainment. Younie arranges many parties and the most famous one is Majales - the annual student holiday party in Czechia.

University of Ostrava Admission & Entry Requirements

To apply here, you are obliged to take the entrance exam organised by the university. It covers topics from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at the secondary school level. It contains 30 questions with a maximum achievable score of 90 points. However, the minimum score required is 37 points, but Medlink Students will supply you with materials to study and achieve the maximum result.

There are 5 dates for entrance exams between May and July.

Accommodation

The University of Ostrava operates 4 dormitories. They are located in different areas close to the faculties. The buildings consist of single, double, and triple rooms plus leisure time areas and study areas. 

The rooms are fully furnished with beds and private bathrooms. Around the dorms, you can use shared kitchens, gyms, laundry, and study rooms. One of the dormitories also has a piano room. The campuses have buffets that serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Prices for students are reduced. 

The price for a room varies according to the building and room type, but on average, it is around €100-150 per month for a room, including the utilities.

If you prefer your own flat or a shared flat with roommates, the rent would be between €250 and €400. Including utilities, food and activities in your leisure time, you will need about €800 per month.

Accreditation

Graduating from the University of Ostrava, you will receive an internationally recognised diploma. This will allow you to apply for a higher degree course or start practising everywhere around the globe.

The World Health Organisation recognises this university and is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Also, many other European and local institutions have recognised the school.

Term Dates

The classes for the winter semester in the medical faculty start on 07 September and finish on 18 December. A 2-week break follows it and the examination period is in January.

The summer semester begins on 8 February and ends on 21 May. The examination period is from May until July.
